Pond Rest?
Written by Leviosa Kiairacup
On Thursday, July 6th 2003, New Brunswick, young twelve year old Lizzy capital Mai decided to rest in a nearby pond. Lizzy was feeling quite grumpy that afternoon so she went and grabbed herself an air tank and snorkel. Witness Mrs. Cleo Tommies, the Mais nearby neighbour quotes “The poor girl just jumped right into the lake, no explanation at all”.Also, witness Ted Peters reported “Lizzy just lied down on the bottom of the shallow pond and put her feet up in the air”.

Do you know what my treasured item is? No? Well, I will give you some hints. It is fluffy, small soft, and pink. It was given to me by my auntie and it helps me sleep. It was a gift to me when I was born and I put it on my bed. If I lost it, I would be really sad and devastated. It is too big to fit into my pocket but it is small enough to fit inside my backpack. If these hints helped you, I’m very glad you know my treasured item.

Oh, there you are! I’ve been looking all over for you! I’ve got a case for you. I have a treasured item and it’s your task to guess it. Sometimes, it’s fun to play with. My possession is delicate and unique, so you must be very careful. I received it from my mom six days before I turned eight. It’s precious because I’ve wanted one for many years. It’s temperature can change, sometimes me feel warm, other tones it makes me freezing cold. Also, it can become dirty quickly. Sometimes I miss it. Can you guess it now?

We’re Feeling Thankful in Room 3

October8

This past week we took the time to reflect on what we are thankful for. As part of our morning meeting, friends used playdough to create what they are most thankful for. Family, food, water and special activities were all things that we in Room 3 are thankful for. What are you thankful for?

Orange Shirt Day

The week of September 28 we participated in special activities that made us feel very thankful that we are part of the Victor Mager community. On September 28th the school community came together to recognize Orange Shirt day. “Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.”http://www.orangeshirtday.org/

Mrs Strifling created a special orange shirt day 5-8 art project which was installed at the assembly. Each member of the Room 3 community made two flowers. The flowers represent the Indigenous  children who were placed into residential schools. We commemorate in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.

Terry Fox

Room 3 also recognized a Canadian hero who we all thankful for. “Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on an east to west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Terry Fox died on June 28, 1981 after raising 23 million dollars for cancer research and realizing his dream of $1 donated for every Canadian.” Because of Terry, every year millions of people of all ages from over 60 countries participate in the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over 500 million dollars has been raised in his name. On October 4th, The Victor Mager community came together to celebrate Terry Fox and then participated in a community walk. The Phys Ed teachers also organized a special open gym at lunch in an effort to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation. A special thank you to Mr Thordason and Mrs Ziegler for organizing this for us.

Lastly, I am thankful for the organizers of the 100 Word Challenge. When I first read about the 100 Word Challenge it sounded like a neat idea but I never thought that it would create such enthusiasm for writing among the Room 3 community. The 100 Word Challenge “is a creative writing challenge for children under 16 years of age. Each week a prompt is given, which can be a picture or a series of individual words and the children can use up to 100 words to write a creative piece.” Since we have begun participating in the challenges, friends in Room 3 have blossomed into a community of writers. We eagerly write together and share our writings with each other openly receiving suggestions and praise. Everyone participates in the writing and only those who wish to have their stories published will have their pieces posted on our class blog and then linked to the 100 Word Challenge blog. We invite you to check out the website and to comment on our writing. https://100wc.net

Part 2

Note: The story is a continuation from his last 100-word challenge that was “To be continued!”

… he jumped away from the crocodile, it hit the front door then Zeus grabbed the crocodile and pushed him away. They all ran away but Stephanie tripped over a rock. Zeus and Ricky didn’t know she fell so they kept on running. Stephanie couldn’t get up, then she saw the crocodile and it opened its mouth and it was just about to eat her… a dog out of nowhere started barking at the crocodile, it ran away and jumped into the sewer. Zeus and Ricky finally realized that Stephanie was left behind. They both went back to her. They asked if she was ok and she said yes while petting the dog. All of them said “We won’t have to see that thing ever again!” They all pet the dog and the dog was wearing glasses.

Once there was a cat. She was walking down the street, she saw a pair of glasses and a hat. She took it to her friends’ dog. The dog said “what is in your hand?” The cat said “It’s a hat and glasses.” “Give me those glasses!” the dog said and the dog was wearing the glasses. “You look great” The cat said. The cat put on the hat. “You look very great too” The dog said. “I’ll go outside and check the weather and see if it’s raining or not” said the dog. “It’s not raining outside, let’s go to the animal park.”

Once upon a time there was a man who bought a dog. The dog was very nice and cute. The man slept with the dog. One morning the man woke up and he saw that his glasses were gone. He looked everywhere for his glasses and the dog was wearing his glasses. The man thought “how could a dog wear glasses by himself?” There was a CCTV camera in his room. He saw what happened last night and saw that the dogs face hit the table and the glasses fell on his face. Then he knew what happened and by that time the dog woke up.

One day in a new house a dog loved to wear glasses. His name was Jake. He asked his owner to buy him glasses. His owner wouldn’t buy him any glasses. Then at night when they were sleeping, Jake woke up and stole his owner’s glasses. Jake invited his dog friends over for a party. When Jake’s owner woke up he went downstairs and the dog was wearing glasses. Jake’s owner sold Jake for 50$.
